My Story…
Hey everyone! I’ve been running the Pittsburgh Marathon since 2010 and it has been a great experience every year, these last two years were a little tougher since it was a virtual event, but with some motivation and the love and support of my family, running the marathon was different, but still a great experience.
Running the Pittsburgh Marathon started out as a personal growth goal to motivate me to be healthier and push myself beyond my normal limits and then turned into a tradition I did every year, even occasionally running additional events. It’s a fantastic event and I absolutely appreciate the organizers, volunteers, crowds, participates and everyone that comes together to make this event possible. The effort everyone puts into this event is what makes it great and is what brings me back every year.
Coming into 2022, I’m realizing that as much as it is still an event I love to run for myself, I could also be doing more with it by participating in their charity program, Run For a Reason. So this year, I am finding some new motivation and running for the charity, 412 Food Rescue.
I chose this charity because in a time of significantly rising food costs, sending perfectly good food to the landfill is the worst thing we could be doing. By donating to this cause, you will be helping 412 Food Rescue redirect food from sources where it would otherwise have gone to waste and direct it to non-profit partners who get this food to people who really need it.
In their own words:
"412 Food Rescue was founded as a direct response to the disconnect between food waste, hunger, and environmental sustainability."
"We focus on getting food to people who need it most—making a particular effort to extend beyond traditional food access networks in order to reach folks where they are already working, living, learning, and playing."
For more information about 412 Food Rescue check out their website here.
If I can hit at least $500 of my goal, my registration fee for the marathon will be waived and I'll be able to direct my registration fee back into 412 Food Rescue.
Every dollar counts and no donation is too small!
Thanks for the Support!
