Help Doug raise money

For participating in 2022 DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend

My Story…

This is my 10th year running in the Marathon to raise money for Light of Life. Through the support of a lot of people, you've helped Laura and I raise over $137,000 for the Mission.

I have been on staff at Light of Life for 11 years. In that time, I've seen hundreds of lives be transformed through the work that we do. My family has actually been impacted by the Mission.

My younger sister battled a heroin addiction for fifteen years. The Mission walked me, my family, and my sister, through her battle for nine of those years. She ended up homeless twice and in our program at Light of Life three different times.

Through Light of Life, my sister rededicated her life to Christ.  Unfortunately, my sister ended up relapsing and we lost her to an overdose in 2019. I share that to let you know 4 things:

1.) We're all one or two decisions away from being in the exact someplace the men, women, and children we serve are in. In fact, I tell people that you'd be lucky to be in the same place they are in if you had to experience everything they experienced.

2.) The work we do is messy. Every day is a life-or-death battle for those walking through our doors. Sometimes we help people transform their lives forever and others' stories sadly end like my sisters.

Obviously, we did not get the end we wanted with my sister, but because of Light of Life, I know my sister knows Christ and I will see her again. That's why being a faith-based organization is so important to us.

3.) Everyone we serve is someone's sister, brother, father, mother, son, or daughter. When you view the people we serve that way, it changes everything.

4.) As long as someone is still alive, there is hope for them. This is why I show up to work every day. This is why I run for Light of Life. Because I see everyone that walks through my door as my sister. I know what they are up against and I know that there is hope for them to transform their life. This is why Light of Life exists and why we do what we do.

That is why I run. I'm running in honor of my sister's life. I'm running to raise money to help people who were in a similar situation as my sister. I'm running to help meet people where they are at and to help them transform their lives.

Would you support me as I run for the Mission?
