I Run to Cure CF!

My mother, Sarah Jo, died from CF at the young age of 34. I was very young when she died, but I was old enough to remember how she struggled for every breath that she took.

Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that you are born with. It causes the body to overproduce mucus, creating a very hard layer inside of the lungs that makes it very difficult to breathe. Most people don’t survive past their 30s. Lung transplants help, but it’s usually a temporary solution to a bigger problem.

It’s always been a goal of mine to run a half marathon. I don’t know why. I am not a huge fan of running. I’ve never been in incredible shape. However, this year, as I am in my 30s and soon about to outlive my mother, I want to do something to honor her. I want to take advantage of the healthy lungs and body that I do have and use it to do something to honor her.

It is my goal to run in the half marathon and raise money for other kids and adults who have their lives to live, just like my mom did.

Please support me as I undertake this big goal running for a cause that I care about. All proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to help those struggling with CF and their families, as well as to continuing research for effective treatments and hopefully one day, a cure.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and thank you for your support!

Description

Cystic fibrosis is a rare, genetic disease found in about 30,000 people in the U.S. causing persistent lung infections and limiting the ability to breath over time. Those living with this disease are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers --all struggling each day just to breathe and live normal, healthy lives.

While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure and too many lives are cut far too short. By participating in the Pittsburgh Marathon on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation,  I run to help add tomorrows to the lives of all people living with cystic fibrosis today. Please make a difference and support me by donating to my fundraising campaign today!

Then please consider joining the team!  For more information - reach out to Jean Schieman - jschieman@cff.org
