My Story…
My dad always loved running. He loved to tell stories about his cross country days in high school, and often ran in the Great Race through downtown Pittsburgh.
As my 5th grade basketball coach, my dad printed and laminated awards for each player the end of the season, and my award was for "Most Dedicated." I was the only player or coach who had never missed a practice or a game. As a 10 year old, I remember being disappointed. I would have preferred to get MVP, Sharp Shooter, or even Best Hustle. But now I see things differently.
I will never be the fastest runner, but I run for me. I show up even when I'm mentally drained from a long day. I show up in the early morning when I could be sleeping in. I run because I'm dedicated to myself and my physical and mental well-being. And I run to honor the most dedicated person I ever knew: a dad so dedicated he coached my 5th grade basketball team while fighting cancer.
I am proud to be raising money for the American Cancer Society and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh as I run the Pittsburgh Half-Marathon, in memory of my dad, Sean Conway. Thank you for your donation!
