My Story…
I know the fact that I run at all is still a shock to so many of you (mostly my mom), but I am running in the 2022 Pittsburgh Half Marathon. I started running at the start of 2020 and thanks to COVID, it became the only constant and normal thing in my life; while I don’t have time to run every single day the way I did that year, I am still consistent and have decided that I’ve outgrown 5Ks. 2022 seems like a year for bigger goals.
I chose to run to support the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation. The Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation helps provide support to patients and families at UPMC Children’s. They offer distractions and activities to help kids just be kids while in the hospital, and cover the cost of medical care for those who cannot afford it.
This seemed like the perfect choice for me to once again be able to support kids like my cousin, Olivia. When I was six and she was seven, Olivia battled against a brain tumor, and every day since then, I think about the kind of life I want to tell her about someday. My world is so very different without her in it, but my life is infinitely better because I got to share even a small time of it with her.

As part of Team Children's, my participation in the 2022 Pittsburgh Marathon supports UPMC Children's Hospital Foundation.
Funds support the patients and families served by UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Last year UPMC Children's Hospital had over 1 million patient visits and many of the programs, initiatives, and resources that make UPMC Children’s so special are funded by philanthropic gifts. Things like distraction therapy which provides patients something else to focus on during their medical procedures, the Child Life Department which provides many activities to create a sense of normalcy for hospitalized children, and the Free Care Fund which covers the cost of medical care for those that cannot afford it. These areas are not covered by insurance, yet are critically important to helping families face the many challenges that accompany a child’s treatment.
