Why I Run for a Reason: I lost a good friend to Cystic Fibrosis weeks after graduating from college.
I met Chuck when we were freshmen at Geneva College in the mid-70s. We lived next door to each other in the dorm and became friends. On top of studying, dorm life and social activities, he took daily breathing treatments. A few times he was hospitalized in Pittsburgh. This caused him to slip a year and he joined the class of 1981. This was before online classes and uploading assignments.
May 1980. I graduated college excited to start adulthood. Chuck passed away days before his 22nd birthday. Those of us who went to college with Chuck went on to build careers and raise families. And in our minds Chuck is always 21.
I'm running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis in memory of my college friend. Chuck died 42 years ago. $100 x 42 years = $4,200. That's my goal (although I'd love to raise more). Please consider donating to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation using my donation page. Any amount will help!

Cystic fibrosis is a rare, genetic disease found in about 30,000 people in the U.S. causing persistent lung infections and limiting the ability to breath over time. Those living with this disease are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers --all struggling each day just to breathe and live normal, healthy lives.
While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure and too many lives are cut far too short. By participating in the Pittsburgh Marathon on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I run to help add tomorrows to the lives of all people living with cystic fibrosis today.
