My Story…
*** UPDATE BELOW ***
Growing up in Saskatchewan, I was surrounded by Ukrainian people and culture. I have Ukrainian friends who are directly affected by the war in Ukraine. I am also a former Canadian soldier. While the days of wearing a uniform are over for me, I felt compelled to do something for what is happening in Ukraine. I approached Run Ottawa and asked them to have the Red Cross in support of Ukraine as part of the Race Weekend charities. They made this happen in an incredibly short amount of time. I have never been more proud to be part of this organization.
I want to make a difference in a country where lives are being lost and disrupted. There are babies being born in bomb shelters, people leaving their homes in effort to be safe from bombing and shelling, and there is constant fear. Despite the resilience and strength demonstrated by the citizens and the military, the impacts of this war will be felt for many years and Ukraine needs our help.
Please help me achieve my fundraising goal and beyond. I will be running the half marathon for Ottawa Race Weekend.
I stand with Ukraine.
Update (2022/03/11): I am so happy to have met my goal but like running, the only thing better than hitting a goal is smashing it out of the park. So rather than update my goal, I just want to smash it out of the park. Everyone's generosity and kind words are so appreciated.
