My Story…
Hello!
I've chosen to participate in the BMO Half-Marathon and fundraise for the BC Schizophrenia Society.
Schizophrenia affects 1 in 100 people. The BC Schizophrenia Society works to support families and friends affected by schizophrenia, and other serious mental illnesses, by providing education, advocacy and funding research.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of stigma and negative stereotypes associated with schizophrenia, and I hope to not only fundraise money for this organization, but also raise awareness and spread information about the illness.
Currently, there is no cure for schizophrenia, however there is a variety of medications that can help treat symptoms. Unfortunately, there are limited resources available for people in BC who need mental illness treatment. This includes psychiatrists taking new patients, psych beds available in-hospital, long-term support for continued care, substance-use treatment, and safe housing.
Every dollar counts towards helping support those who are affected by mental illness. Fundraising is just one way to help the numerous families like mine.
Donate to help Melissa raise money for 2022 BMO Vancouver Marathon’s fundraising campaign.
