Help Alex raise money

For participating in Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend 2022

Why I care

A few facts about youth homelessness:

1. In Minnesota alone, there is an estimated 7,500 youth experiencing homelessness each year.

2. In Minnesota, there are 200 shelter beds for the 7,500 homeless youth

3. The most common barriers to housing, include lack of job or income, no affordable housing, or not knowing how to find rental housing.

I often feel helpless individually to make an impact on the homelessness situation. Morally, I feel called to help those in need, but practically I’ve struggled with how to help.

Thankfully, organizations like Wildflyer Coffee allow individuals to support and partner with them to collectively solve the issue. I support their mission work because they are not aiming to find a short term solution to a chronic problem, rather aim to solve the societal root by equipping individuals with the experience and skills needed to provide for themselves and make their own way. This type of empowerment can truly change lives and also generations long term.

I feel honored to fundraise for such a worthy and necessary cause. If you relate to my sentiments or, perhaps, directly with the struggle homeless youth endure, please consider donating as your heart leads.

Description

Wildflyer Coffee is a coffee company that hires and trains youth experiencing homelessness throughout the Twin Cities, giving them the tools and skills they need to leave homelessness, achieve self-sufficiency and build the future they deserve.

Every day, there are approximately 7,500 youth ages 16-24 in Minnesota that experience homelessness. These are people's sons or daughters, siblings, and friends, who are not only fighting to fit in with their peers but trying to find basic needs like food and shelter. The likelihood is high that these vulnerable youth will experience untreated mental health disorders, struggle with substance use, engage in survival sex or trafficking, become victims of violent crime or complete suicide.

This fall, I'm running the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon/10 Mile race to raise money for Wildflyer Coffee. Your donation will help provide youth experiencing homelessness with paid employment, housing assistance, mental health referrals, skills coaching, education help, and future career planning.  Thank you for joining me to end youth homelessness!
