My Story…

Oooof, what a year...what a couple of years. I am late to the game this year friends. Normally I am fundraising for this amazing organization weeks prior to the race. I have to admit the last year I was just barely keeping my head above water and the last few weeks I have been under. But here we are with under two weeks to go. This year has been a good year for Jason. While he seems to have some underlying pain that is chronic, his joint and eyes are doing well. I hate to say remission. It is a word that gives this almost false hope, we start to countdown to some ambiguous timeline that we never seem to reach. So we say he is doing well with no joints currently active and no uveitis. Does that mean we are done with fundraising? Nope, this is a chronic condition, it has no cure. It has great treatments that is backed by research that is funded by organizations like Cassie and Friends. I was reminded of the chronic part this year when I was diagnosed with arthritis again. It was a very long road to get there and Jason laughs as we take the same yucky medicine but with all of this we have hope.

From the start, Jason was diagnosed at 22 months. I knew what was going on before anyone else but his road to diagnosis was typical.  Rule out the other things first. That meant surgery, a long hospital stay, painful medical procedures. But we got there quicker than a lot of other kids that took months or years. I was diagnosed in grade 2 after my mom recognizing for years something was wrong. Progress. We have had a lot of wins Jason has not had a recurrence of uveitis, we saw citrate free Humira come to Canada, we are trying to make headway with genetics with a grant approved this year through Care for Rare, Jason has been able to ski, to bike to run. These are all wins for us. These all took time, patience, advocating. I am proud of where we have come but we couldn't do it alone. When I couldn't advocate I knew someone else was still going. Cassie and Friends has been a huge part of Jason's journey. I don't remember a time when they weren't there. I remember any big news I would be emailing or calling Jennifer Wilson. Every win was backed by those who have been cheering us on. Our family, our friends, our coworkers and Cassie and Friends. We can see your donations at use in our clinic. There is a new Mr.Bones that helps families, iPads were donated. These are all very important parts of the education that goes on. I hope we can continue to grow our team and grow our donations. The best is yet to come. Welcome back to the in person Calgary Charity Run. We hope to see you there
