My Story…
When I was a kid I was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis Type 1, this is a genetic disorder that causes (usually benign) tumours to grow on nerve tissue and skin, as well as abnormal skin pigmentation. People with NF are also more susceptible to other health problems. It is estimated that 1 out of every 3000 births will be someone with NF.
One of the biggest issues of having a rare disorder is the fact that not all doctors are familiar with it. It's really frustrating when you go to a doctor for help and end up having to explain what your disorder is to them. The Tumour Foundation of BC is working towards creating a clinic specifically for people with NF. They hope to open virtually in July of this year but require additional funding.
It would mean so much if you could support me on this run as having this clinic would not just help me but others with NF and their families. Every little bit helps!
