The Mental Health Program is committed to becoming a leader in mental health research. We aim to advance leading-edge research that will transform care for those impacted by mental illness and addictions, whilst ensuring that our research program is responsive to community needs and priorities.  

The Mental Health Program is committed to further investing in developing mental health research capacity, infrastructure and knowledge translation. We strive to create knowledge with the promise of direct and meaningful application both to the care of individuals and their families and to society at large. Our plan endeavors to transform care for those impacted by mental illness and addictions through world-class research. Over the next 5 years, we aim to:

i. Build research capacity in priority areas and in areas of significant unmet need (e.g., reproductive mental health, concurrent disorders, and eating disorders).

ii. Advance knowledge through supporting innovative research and fostering collaborations with academic scholars, patients and community members.

iii. Establish research infrastructure to support and advance world-class research through the Centre for Mental Health Research at the New St. Paul’s Hospital.

iv. Translate research findings to frontline clinical practice and promote implementation of evidence-based mental health care models and services across BC.
