My Story…
Hi there! I am fortunate to be mom to one of the best kids I've ever met, my daughter Aria. She is 8 years old and was diagnosed with PJIA at the age of 2. She has yet to ever be in remission and has been on constant treatment and therapy for this. Her quality of life has not been very good these past few years due to her weakened immune system and anxiety about getting covid. Unfortunately, she no longer attends in-person school and has lost friends because of this. It has been a hard few years.
Aria is an only child who LOVES animals, babies/toddlers and caring for others. She has the spirit of a true nurturer. Watching the respect she has for nature is a beautiful thing and I can't wait to see what she does when she's older, I'm sure wonderful things.
This is our first year participating and I'm unsure how far she will be able to walk but we've got this! we will carry her if we have to because she's worth everything to us and this is such an important event to further research.
Her dad and I hope that going to this event helps her start to cultivate relationships with others like her, as she feels very lonely in this illness.

Description
This year, I will be running in support of kids and families affected by juvenile arthritis (JA) and other rheumatic diseases with Cassie + Friends Society. Cassie + Friends is a national charity focused 100% on kids and families impacted by juvenile arthritis and other rheumatic diseases. Cassie + Friends provides much needed education, awareness, support programs, advocacy and research to families across Canada.
What is JA?
JA is an incurable autoimmune disease in kids that attacks healthy joints and steals childhoods. It’s just as common as Juvenile Diabetes (every 3 in 1000 kids) and yet receives a fraction of the research, awareness and support. Kids with JA live with pain, fatigue and fevers, and many require aggressive medications like chemotherapy.
In 2022, Cassie + Friends is raising money for:
- Providing parents with access to a private Online Support Network
- Supporting families with emergency funds and medical equipment
- Helping fund Monthly Expert-Led educational webinars
- Connecting youth with trained peer mentors
- Fueling critical Advocacy + research into safer Treatments and a cure.
