Many children in our community face adversity, and the trauma from these experiences can last a lifetime. Early intervention through the introduction and support of a developmental relationship with a caring adult is a key way to help young people navigate childhood adversity and emerge stronger.
Mentored youth report improved mental health, self-confidence and self-worth. They are more likely to grow up to become gainfully employed and connected to their community. They are less likely to engage in negative behaviours like drug use, or to have interactions with the justice system. It’s clear, mentoring youth in adverse circumstances leads to improved mental health and a great likelihood of achieving their potential.
