My Story…

When you find out that you or a loved one is diagnosed with cancer, your immediate thought turns to "why me?" or even "why them?".  This was the same thoughts that ran through our minds when my dad started his first battle with cancer back in 2018.  After his two major surgeries to remove the cancer, my dad had to do 7 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation.  But this wasn't just your typical go in and have the laser pointed at you.  No, my poor dad had to have his head attached to the table so he wouldn't move when they tried to aim the laser at his head and neck.  My dad became claustrophobic and needed to be medicated just to survive the 10-minute procedure.  After the longest 7 weeks of our lives, my dad was able to ring that bell and receive his diploma for finishing his treatment.  Tears were shed as we were happy to have that behind us.  Or so we thought.  In 2020, when we learned my dad had Stage 3 lung cancer, and chemotherapy and radiation were the only options, we turned back to the cancer center where we went before.  Signature Healthcare Corporation's (formerly Brockton Hospital) Green Cancer Center. We were able to have the same group of doctors on his team which helped ease our minds.  We also saw many of the same nurses and technicians, all who remembered my dad from his first round with them.  Everyone's professionalism, kindness and knowledge helped ease our minds.  The doctors took the time to explain, once again, what his treatment plan would look like and what to expect.  While the outcome was not as we had hoped, and my dad passed only a week into this round of treatment, we would not have gone anyplace different.  The care we received at Greene Cancer Center is one of a kind, and for that my family and I will forever be grateful for all that they did for us.

Description

There are so many warriors in our community fighting the battle of their lives.

Team Bringing Boston to Brockton is running the 2022 (50th) Falmouth Road Race to raise awareness and funds for the cancer patients at Signature Healthcare’s Greene Cancer Center.

Raising funds and participating in the Falmouth Road Race will allow us to make a difference to those brave patients and their family members who are caring for their loved ones.

Our Greene Cancer Center provides quality cancer care to these warriors in our community close to home so that they are not faced with the burden of traveling into Boston for their care.

Cancer touches the lives of so many.

We are running for the brave patients who are going through treatment, to celebrate the survivors, and to carry the memory of those we have lost.

Please support Team Bringing Boston to Brockton and be a part of the fight.

Together we can make a difference!
