My Story…
I am so excited to be joining Tedy's Team for the 2022 Falmouth Road Race! My goal in running any race with Tedy's Team is to help raise awareness of heart disease, stroke, and the importance of being CPR trained.
CPR was the first step in saving my life in 2017 when I went into cardiac arrest at work. I was fortunate to receive immediate CPR until paramedics arrived. Paramedics then continued CPR and administering shocks from an AED while transporting me to a local hospital. I was without a pulse for about 45 minutes before the team at North Shore Medical Center were able to revive me. Upon stabilization, I was transported to BIDMC, but not before going into cardiac arrest again in the ambulance on the way there.
Upon arrival to BIDMC, I was placed in a medically induced coma and on full life support. The expectation was that if I lived, I would be in a vegetative state. My family surrounded me hoping for a miracle that came 6 days later when I was taken out of the coma. Not without many struggles along the way including not being able to walk, I did fully recover from my two cardiac arrests. I now live with an ICD in my chest to treat any potential future cardiac arrests immediately.
There are many reasons why I survived including immediate CPR, fast and skilled EMT's, emergency room staff that would not quit, ICU staff that tried every available option, and yes maybe a miracle. This experience has taught me so much about life and it is my mission to make sure everyone knows how important it is to be CPR trained and to take care of your heart.
