My Story…
The only reason I would lace up my running shoes to run the Falmouth Road Race again is to honor William. Losing William - my best friend's son - at 9 years old was one of the hardest things I have ever experienced. Standing by Susan Shaw, her family, our friends-that-are-family, and their whole community as we grieved for that beautiful boy was agonizing...but it was also incredibly enlightening. Making your way through grief and sitting with pain is not something we are ever really taught as a life skill, but it is absolutely something we can learn. This is why Sue decided to start William's Be Yourself Challenge - to help others face their grief and to build authentic and meaningful connections, and to carry on William's legacy of courage, strength-through-struggle and believing in oneself. So, this August I will run (slow jog?) alongside my lifelong best friends through the town where we grew up to raise money for this incredible organization, and to keep William in our hearts as we continue to grieve, and to make a positive impact on others, which he was bound to do.
