My Story…
It’s been a long time since I was a runner, but I’ve slowly been making my way back to it and reclaiming something that was a childhood joy. When I was asked if I would run the Falmouth Road Race in honor of William it was an obvious yes. William was an amazing child who shaped me as the first born among my circle of life-long best friends and with his own zest for life and challenging himself. Losing William and seeing my friends go through so much pain has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever confronted. Before William died, he was living up to a personal goal to overcome his own anxieties and be himself. I’ve taken heart in his mantra, “Be Yourself” and try to support my kids to be themselves and aspire to be my highest self as well—knowing every single day is a gift.
Pain and grief have the power to change all of us, especially when we sit with it, process it, and choose to honor it with the deepest love—something I’ve learned from William’s family. William’s family and community have started a wonderful organization called William’s Be Yourself Challenge with the intent to remember with love, honor with joy, and bring people together for authentic and meaningful connection to help others face grief and to carry on William’s legacy of courage and believing in oneself.
I run in honor of William and in support of William’s Be Yourself Challenge. I am most grateful to any size donation you can make to help me support this beautiful, budding organization.
