My Story…
My dad and I are happy to run the 2022 Falmouth Road Race for Tommy’s Place! We are running in loving memory of Liesl Radzik (as well as all the amazing folks who Tommy’s Place Team Members are running in memory of). Growing up, I have many memories of cheering on my dad running the Falmouth Road Race. For the past three years, he’s cheered me on to do the same. This year becomes special as we will be running together for such an incredible cause, organization, and offer support for families whose daily battles are unimaginable. For those unfamiliar, Tommy's Place is a renovated vacation home designed to accommodate kids fighting cancer. The organization relies 100% on donations in order to keep its doors open and will eventually serve more than 100 kids and their families per year in Falmouth, MA. More recently, there are plans in the works for a second location in Centerville, MA. This home is created for families and friends of children fighting cancer to get away from the hospital and spend a much-deserved vacation down in Falmouth. In 2019, our good family friends, the Radziks, suggested that Alison and I run the Falmouth Road for Tommy’s Place. We dedicated our first Falmouth Road Race to Alison’s mom, Liesl Radzik, who lost her battle to cancer in April of 2019. From then on, we have looked forward to keeping the tradition going and each year, we have added amazing team members to run with us. The Tommy’s Place house has even dedicated a ‘Liesl Radzik Room’. We run for all the families who have enjoyed Tommy’s Place in the past and for all those who will in the future. This incredible organization continues to spread Liesl’s helping hand mentality and brings her remembrance mantra ‘Because Nice Matters’ to life. Tommy's Place is OPEN!
"Tommy's Place" is a magical vacation home for kids fighting cancer. The home, located in Falmouth on Cape Cod, is a place to relax, make memories, and most importantly have fun! To ensure privacy, one family at a time will stay in the home for up to a week, free of charge. The house has enough room for the immediate family, extended family, as well as any friends and caregivers that are all part of the support system. For these children and their families, one of the most important aspects of dealing with cancer is having a supportive community. “It takes a village” is especially true when dealing with childhood cancer. "Tommy's Place" is an HGTV Dream Home/Disney like experience with individually designed and decorated rooms, an inground swimming pool, game room, home theatre and tavern, music and arts and crafts rooms and so much more!!!
Since opening in July of 2021 Tommy's Place has served more than 40 families and is fully booked through 2022!
