My Story…
This year, I have decided to take part in the Falmouth Road Race in memory of my dear friend, Charlie Gargulo Jr. Charlie was an avid and accomplished runner, and in his younger days he ran a two mile race in under 10 min while also holding a 1:35 PR for a half marathon. Unfortunately, in May 2005 he found out he had a rare type of bone cancer and eventually had to lose his leg. He continued to run, taking part in local races on crutches. Later he found out the cancer progressed. The pain of the cancer was hard for him to deal with, but the mental pain was far worse and in May 2019, my friend Charlie took his own life. This year would have been his 50th birthday, and there is no better way for me to honor his life than to raise money for The Mental Health Collaborative and run The Falmouth Road Race.
