My Story…
The first time I met Tim O’Connell was on Falmouth Road Race day last year. My family and I received a tour of Tommy’s Place that afternoon…it was our turn. We held the proverbial golden ticket.. a cancer diagnosis for our eight year old son, Brayden.
We will never forget our time at Tommy’s Place…we laughed and had FUN…something we hadn’t been able to let ourselves do for the entire first year of Brayden’s treatment. Our daughter, Saylor, took her first steps there in the kitchen, and our big extended family all gathered for a barbecue in the back yard. Our week at Tommy’s Place gave us pause and rest and SO MUCH JOY! It was the reboot our family needed to continue our fight against leukemia. We are forever grateful to Tim, and all those who made possible such an amazing place for families suffering through a pediatric cancer diagnosis.
If you told me that day that I’d be back a year later to run Falmouth, I would have laughed at you. I’m not a runner. But I also wasn’t a cancer mom until I became one either.
This August I will be running the Falmouth Road Race for Tommy’s Place, and to honor my son’s current brave battle against pediatric cancer. Your donations truly mean the world to me and to the families who will walk through the doors of Tommy’s Place every single Sunday afternoon with that heartbreaking golden ticket. Tommy's Place is OPEN!
"Tommy's Place" is a magical vacation home for kids fighting cancer. The home, located in Falmouth on Cape Cod, is a place to relax, make memories, and most importantly have fun! To ensure privacy, one family at a time will stay in the home for up to a week, free of charge. The house has enough room for the immediate family, extended family, as well as any friends and caregivers that are all part of the support system. For these children and their families, one of the most important aspects of dealing with cancer is having a supportive community. “It takes a village” is especially true when dealing with childhood cancer. "Tommy's Place" is an HGTV Dream Home/Disney like experience with individually designed and decorated rooms, an inground swimming pool, game room, home theatre and tavern, music and arts and crafts rooms and so much more!!!
Since opening in July of 2021 Tommy's Place has served more than 40 families and is fully booked through 2022!
