For this year's 50th Falmouth Road Race I am grateful and honored to be running for an incredible organization known as “Tommy’s Place”, alongside a handful of my best friends. Tommy’s Place is a non-profit organization that provides a magical dream vacation for children and their families, while in the midst of battling the exhausting disease that touches so many of us around the world, cancer.

Back in 2018, Tim O’Connell was not aware of the life altering effect he would leave on a family and himself when he had the privilege of gifting a dream, Martha's Vineyard vacation home to a little 8 year old boy named Grifyn. At the time, Grifyn was enduring an extremely difficult battle against cancer and the time Grifyn and his family had left together was unknown. This “small” gesture would unknowingly change Grifyn and hundreds of families lives to follow.

This powerful experience inspired Tim, a Quincy, MA and Falmouth resident to found what we now know and honor today as, "Tommy’s Place". Since 2018, “Tommy’s Place” has continued to create a lasting impact on hundreds of families and children by taking away the financial pressure involved with planning a getaway for loved ones who are fighting to see another day. The homes built in honor of many who have passed us are meant to create everlasting  memories, cherish precious time and most importantly to have fun. 

As for myself; being born and raised in Quincy, MA, I have seen the difference Tommy’s Place has directly made within my community. In recent years Tommy’s Place has contributed to Priscilla Bonica, a phenomenal student athlete battling for her life, our local little hero “Mighty Quinn'', and many more beloved Quincy families. In particular, I would like to mention the Radzik family, as I and many others are inspired by Liesl’s Radziks ‘Because Nice Matters’ mantra, that allows us to spread unconditional kindness and love to all. We never fully know what someone may be battling and Liesl’s mantra allows us to honor and spread our helping hands to others. I am grateful there is a dedicated room in Tommy’s Place to honor the incredible life Liesl lived.

    We cannot control what happens to us in this life, but we can control how we choose to spend and honor it. Tommy’s place has the power to transform the last few months of life for so many special loved ones. Throughout the years, my community has benefited greatly from the sole purpose of Tommy’s Place and I am honored to run for this amazing charity.
