Help Maia raise money

For participating in The 2022 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

My Story…

This year I am running the Falmouth Road Race with Hospitality Homes! Hospitality Homes supports patient centered care in Boston and beyond the hospital.

I am also running on behalf of Michael, who has TBM which is a collapse airway. He and his wife Tiffany have traveled all the way from Illinois so that Michael could receive his treatment at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

A note from Tiffany:

Mike has a disease called TBM (tracheobroncomalacia) which is a collapsed airway. He has gone through multiple stents and bronchoscopy surgeries, and a robotic trachaebroncoplasty 2019 in IL. He had died three times in 2019 due to his complex surgeries.

As of March 2021, we were given the statement of, "you will die here, if you stay".

We had no choice but to come to Boston for an open-chest redo of trachaebroncoplasty that was scheduled on June 16th, 2021. We had hoped that our stay in Boston would be three weeks maximum, but instead it's now 2 months plus.

His procedure took 12 hours and he ending up having to have an emergency tracheostomy, ventilator, ecmo, dialysis machine due to his respiratory failure. After 46 days of being on ecmo, he finally got off of ecmo. He was on continuous dialysis but now intermittent dialysis. He was in a gravely ill situation during that time.

If it wasn't for Hospitality Homes, I wouldn't be able to be by my husband's side every day through his rollercoaster journey. Hospitality Homes made it possible to assist me with my financial burdens.

My host, Judy, has done a magnificent job of allowing me to stay with her. There are no words on how grateful and thankful I am, to have gained “Auntie Judy” in my life. I felt awful that she had to go through my ups and downs on a daily basis with Mike's health condition, but I'm so appreciative that I didn't go through it alone.

Description

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!

I'm so proud to be a member of TEAM HOSPITALITY HOMES in this year's Falmouth Road Race!

Your support means the world to me and will help continue to provide housing for patients and families traveling to Boston for critical medical treatment.

With the prohibitively expensive costs of local hotels- averaging $260 per night- and the lack of sufficient hospital- sponsored housing, many patients struggle with what to do, balancing these and other out-of-pocket expenses with the already high cost of responding to a complex or chronic illness.

Your donation is fully tax-deductible, as Hospitality Homes is a 501c3 non-profit organization.
