My Story…
Please help me support the Mental Health Collaborative. This local organization was sparked when an individual who had moved away from his local care lost their battle with depression and anxiety and committed suicide.
I have a college friend who lost their brother to suicide, my son's friend and fellow soldier in the army was lost to suicide, I have an ex-brother-in-law that was lost to suicide. Anxiety and depression plague most families, including mine, and everyone needs help and support. 46.4 % of people in the US experience mental illness in their lifetime. Only 41% of those individuals received help.
There needs to be proactive and effective ways to get training and information out to the communities we live in that can be used to support everyone in need. The Mental Health collaborative does just that. It helps to provide information and mental health literacy through training programs for teachers, parents, first responders, corporations, coaches, and more.
The goal of the Mental Health Collaborative is to move away from crisis based response to a model of prevention. Certainly, as we look at the news these days, it is apparent we need this more then ever. So please help me support the Mental Health Collaborative during my run of the Falmouth Road Race.
