Help Bonnie raise money

For participating in The 2022 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

Here's my story ...

Hello! Thanks for considering donating to my fundraising page! :)

Some things about me: My name is Bonnie, and I'm currently a rising sophomore at Northeastern University. I'm super excited to be running in the Falmouth Road Race this year! Though I initially didn't plan to run a race anytime soon (as I'm just a beginner runner), a friend of mine invited me to join her team to support the AAFANE, an organization dedicated to improve the lives of people with allergies and asthma.

Many of my friends and family members have allergies and asthma, and being a person with food allergies herself, I can say that there still needs to be more in-depth research done and awareness spread around allergies and asthma. When I was little, my allergies actually weren't as fatal as they are now, and so, mistakenly, I didn't treat them as a serious health concern. In the middle of high school, I quickly discovered that my physiological reactions to tree nuts and peanuts had grown much more severe. One day, after consuming a very small amount of what was later discovered to be peanut oil, my body soon went into anaphylactic shock within minutes, and the scary part was, I didn't even realize it until I was shipped to the ER an hour later. Up until that point, I had never experienced anaphylaxis, only milder reactions like an itchy throat and a slightly upset stomach. Ever since then, I have been paying a lot more attention to the dishes I order when going out to restaurants and double-checking that I'm always carrying my Epipen. That moment also made me more curious about how allergies develop within certain individuals and at such unexpected times. There is still so much to be uncovered in this field of research, and as someone who is interested in learning more about immunology and conducting research in the future, I hope that you can help out by not just donating money, but to spread awareness to others about the necessity of educating the public about allergies and asthma, and providing abundant care to those who are affected.

So, let's reach for that goal!

Description

How many of your family members and friends are affected by food allergies, environmental allergies, or have asthma? Very likely, more and more. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, New England Chapter helps people with such conditions live healthier, safer and more active lives through patient education, public awareness and continuing research. It's been our mission since 1979 -- and it's becoming more important than ever.

Please support our very FIRST Falmouth Road Race team to help our organization continue such important work!
