Help GW raise money

On Sunday August 21, 2022 I will be running the Falmouth Road Race to raise money for the Ryan Richards Foundation. The Ryan Richards Foundation is a charity that helps families suffering with cancer to know that they are not alone, endows two annual scholarships to local Falmouth High Seniors attending a four year college, lastly RRF is helping fund medical advancements to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, specifically for Nut Midline Carcinoma clinical trials and Pediatric Brain Cancer research.

Unfortunately, in 2015 Ryan was diagnosed with Nut Midline Carcinoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Rhino lived his final summer to his fullest. He turned 40, had a baby girl, who Seamus calls “that girl is nice.” But unfortunately in October 2015, Rhino went to a place of peace.

Some of you may ask, why is Dubs dusting off his PF Flyers to run the road race this year? Two answers, 1) I can and 2) Rhino and the Richards Family. I grew up sailing with Rhino at an early age. He played an instrumental part for my love of being on the water. Besides that, Rhino helped my transition to living year round in Falmouth when I was younger. During the fall I would crew for Rhino in the Challenger. As you all know, I was a great crew to have in HEAVY AIR. The point is, Rhino introduced me to people in the town I did not know, and also made each Sunday in the fall enjoyable. As we got older Rhino became a mentor. He taught me that no matter what you do the night before, you better be the first one up and be the best at what you do. Basically, No Excuses and Always Compete! Lastly, when I moved out to Colorado, Rhino was the first one to come visit me and skied his heart out. He gave his all out there, even though he never fully adjusted to the altitude. Rhino loved and lived his life to the fullest up until the day he went to a different place. My goal is to do the same, to instill these values in Conor and Seamus.
