Help Cassandra raise money

Anyone who knows me has heard endless stories about my experience coaching the MCW STARS Special Olympics basketball team with my husband. The players on that team are my motivation for running this road race. I am constantly impressed by their improvement each season and dedication to improving their skills on the court. At the same time, if you know me well, you know that running is certainly not a strong skill of mine. I am hoping to improve my running skills just like my STARS team improves each season and know that they will be cheering me on as I work towards the race in August.  

My passion for Special Olympic programing as well as advocacy for individuals with Down Syndrome started at a young age. One of my good friends in elementary school had Down Syndrome. She taught me life lessons that every young child should learn. We would play knock out basketball during recess and we would be the only girls on the court. You could never underestimate Mary, if she had the opportunity to knock you out, you were gone. Her love and passion for everything she did excited me, it was an energy that I wanted to surround myself with. That energy is what makes me look forward to my Saturday mornings in the winter months, the hour of my week where I am surrounded by the players on my team that each have their own passions in life. 

Team MDSC is "Building an Inclusive Future We can All Believe In." I am passionate about the cause that has been working towards  promoting acceptance and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome and their families for nearly four decades.
