My Story…

Hello Friends and Family

I am so excited to be joining team JDRF again this year to run my 18th (I think, I have lost track) ASICS Falmouth Road Race! As many of you know JDRF is an organization that I hold very close to my heart. My youngest sister Erin was diagnosed with T1D 27 years ago and has lived/thrived with this disease since she was 10 years (sorry Erin now people know your age...lol). It is not always easy for her but you will rarely hear her complain, this I have always admired about my sister. Because of research that has been funded by organizations like JDRF there have been so many advances in finding a cure as well as managing T1D. Erin over the past couple years has been wearing a device that closely monitors her blood glucose level (she used to have to check frequently) and she is sent an alert over her phone if her blood sugar is abnormal before it really becomes a medical emergency. Her husband is also alerted at this time as well, he is able to help her manage when her blood sugar is abnormal and if she is experiencing a low blood glucose which can cause confusion and delirium. Just this small advance has been life changing for my sister and her family, it allowed her to have two very healthy babies ages 2.5 and 1.

The Falmouth Road Race is always been so special to me as well, and I always look forward to this day every year. My family and so many old friends come together to celebrate a beautiful New England tradition and it is always just so much fun. I also bumped into my now husband while he was on vacation with his family and I had just ran this race, so it is really just so special to me.

Please consider donating to JDRF as I run the Falmouth Road Race in honor of Erin, and celebrate two of my favorite things: Falmouth Road Race and my beautiful sister.
