My Story…
The Genesis Club is an amazing club house that caters to the needs of those with mental illness. It is a peer run safe haven which provides structure, support, job training, assistance with returning to school, with housing, and offers so much more! The Genesis Club helps reduce hospitalizations for its members and allows its members to become productive and active parts of their community. Most importantly, The Genesis Club aims to reduce the stigma against those with mental illness to prove that we too can hold a job, can be good neighbors, can receive a higher education, etc. The Genesis Club teaches us that we are so much more than our diagnoses; that we are just as worthy, capable, and hardworking as everyone else. The Genesis Club provided me with the job training, experience and support that I needed when I was at my lowest so that I was eventually able to obtain a fulltime job at UMass and also able to secure safe and stable housing. The Genesis Club was very supportive when I faced a health scare during COVID which lead to brain surgery. The Genesis Club cares and will meet you where you're at to help guide and support you on your journey to becoming your best self. I don't know where I'd be today without The Genesis Club. Now that I have been able to achieve stability, something that once felt like an improbable pipe dream, my next goal is to return to school to finish my degree and then go for my master's degree. Today, I have peace of mind, but most of all, today I have a meaningful life that is second to none due to the opportunities and support that The Genesis Club offered to me. Today, I see that there is hope and for that, I am forever grateful. Your donation will help support The Genesis Club with their mission to provide those living with mental illness with the tools, opportunities, and support needed to lead fulfilling lives. Your donation will allow The Genesis Club to help reach and save others that are just like me - people who are learning how to live with mental illness and learning how to turn a disability into an ability. I am running this race for a third time as an attempt to give back to The Genesis Club for all that they have given to me. Thank you in advance for donating!
