My Story…
While I’ve always wanted to run the Falmouth Road Race, the timing just wasn't ever right… cut to this year’s opportunity when I saw a posting in the final minute that the Maddie’s Promise team still had a few open spots remaining and I grabbed the last one, thrilled. To top it off, on my first long training run I happened upon the cemetery where a good friend’s mom had recently been laid to rest. I stopped to walk in and say a prayer/hello to her briefly, having just seen where she was buried, yet looked for her to no avail… when I looked down suddenly and found the most beautiful and spirited smile gazing back up at me. It was the headstone of the very young lady with whom I/we are running this event for: the one and only Miss Madelyn McCoy. A dreamlike happenstance for sure, yet after paying my gratitude and leaving full of hope and joy, I feel sure she knew exactly what she was doing: challenging me to love life to the fullest and have the most fun out there while running in her honor, and that of what Maddie’s Promise holds most dear.
Thank you to the McCoy family and to my family.
