OUR FINISH LINE SAYS ALS DONE!
I am excited to be running the 2022 Falmouth Road Race for ALS ONE in memory of my brother Kevin, Uncle John, cousin Jillian and in honor of all the ALS warriors who are continuing the fight agaisnst this awful disease. In the spring of 2015 my brother Kevin and I walked out of a neurosurgery appointment at Tufts Medical Center. This was it, this was the last rule out before we would get the final diagnosis. This was our last hope. Kevin and I had laughed just moments before in the waiting room, that we were quite possibly the only people on Earth praying for the diagnosis to be a brian tumor or some sort of tumor on his spine. After all that would definitely explain the weakness that he was having in his right leg. If it was a tumor we would have the option of surgery, or some sort of medications to help slow the progression. Who wishes for that we laughed?? When the appointment had ended, we walked out of the office and wiped the tears from our faces we knew there was no more wishing, we knew Kevin was facing the battle of a lifetime with one of the most horrific diseases, ALS. There was no surgery to be had, no medications to take and no treatment. Kevin was going to die. Kevin lost his battle with ALS just 15months after he was diagnosed. But in those 15months he was able to develop a partnership among some of the best and brightest clinicians in the country. ALS ONE has worked hard to improve the care of patients with ALS by funding nursing staff for the MGH clinic and raisng funds to provide
