My Story…
43% of children born in the poorest communities will remain there as adults without education beyond high school.
97% of Greenhouse Scholars graduate from college as compared to 15% of their peers from the lowest income backgrounds.
In working with young leaders who have overcome unimaginable challenges such as homelessness, violence, loss, poverty, the Greenhouse Scholars model has proven to create lasting, generational change from within low-income communities. These future leaders are supported through 4 years of college and beyond.
Please consider supporting this great cause as I ride the 30 mile Venus de Miles course along the banks of St. Vrain in Lyons, Colorado.
Any amount is greatly appreciated and will allow for continual support of generational change in low-income communities.
Description
Why I ride....
Greenhouse Scholars was established in 2005 in an attempt to break the cycle of poverty. Their goal is to help everyone feel the power of opportunity, choice, and belief. Greenhouse Scholars believes that if everyone can see opportunity for themselves, if they feel they have good choices, and if they believe in their future, then they will thrive – and so will the communities around them.
How do they achieve this? Greenhouse Scholars bring together a diverse group of leaders to work side by side with our Scholars. The program delivers the training, resources, and connections that Scholars truly need, so they feel prepared and are equipped to address the most pressing issues in their communities and around the world.
And they've had great results! 97% of Greenhouse Scholars graduate from college, compared to only 15% of low-income, first-generation students nationally. Many Greenhouse Scholars are starting businesses and all of them report starting salaries that are twice that of their parents! Most importantly, they are going back to their communities as volunteers and mentors. They are inspiring younger generations to follow in their footsteps and helping them visualize the opportunities that come from pursuing higher education.
The Venus de Miles ride directly benefits these hardworking Scholars. Join me in support of this great cause!
