Help Karen raise money

For participating in National 5K SCADaddle for Research - Chicago area

My Story…

Piggybacking off my Facebook Birthday Fundraiser May 3 - 13, I am raising additional funds for the National SCADaddle 5K supporting SCAD Reaearch, Inc. based out of Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN

There is still time to join my team for my 3rd SCADAddle 5K! No fundraising required, leave that to me! ♥️

As you may or may not know, I am a 2x survivor of a sudden coronary dissection (SCAD), which caused a heart attack, in August 2010 and again, in November 2015. However, my heart attacks were not formally diagnosed to be caused by SCAD until December 2019, due to the lack of research available. To add, February 2021, I had a slight health setback,  to which my local team of doctors currently do not have an answer as to "why" based on my complex health history. But, the SCAD Research, Inc. team of doctors at Mayo Clinic might be able to help me based on their research about SCAD and "sister" diseases related to SCAD.

What is SCAD?SCAD is a little known and poorly understood type of a heart attack or cardiac arrest caused when a sudden tear occurs within the layers of one or more arteries to the heart. This tear blocks blood flow causing a heart attack and sometimes death.
SCAD often impacts younger, healthy individuals who do not have the typical risk factors for heart disease (plaque, etc). The average age of a SCAD patient is approximately 42 years old (my current age) and up to 80% of those experiencing SCAD are women.

Funds raised from this year's SCADaddle 5K will continue to go towards on-going research and in-patient care module creation so doctors know how to care for patients when they present symptoms in the ER, Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Cardiac Care Floors across the country.
