My Story…

Hello and thank you for supporting Team (Eye)vy!

At birth, it was noted that our daughter Ivy's left eye was different from her right. It was slightly more set-in, and there was a "cloud" (we now know is called an opacity) in the bottom left quadrant of her iris. We consulted an Ophthalmologist, who examined Ivy and missed the concern - twice. After not getting answers that made sense, we consulted a second Ophthalmologist, and at the age of 18 months, Ivy was diagnosed with Anterior Segment Dysgenesis - Peter's Anomaly Type 1 (more information on her Dx can be found here: https://medlineplus.gov/genetics/condition/peters-anomaly/ ). She was immediately prescribed Rx eyeglasses, and was scheduled for surgery that would take place a month later. The surgery did remove the opacity, and assisted it from getting more pronounced. However, it unfortunately did not help with her moderate-to-severe astigmatism, and her Rx has changed 3 times within the last year.  In March, during another 3-month follow-up, it was discovered that amblyopia had set in and we had to start patching for a minimum of 4 hours until at least the end of July, where she'll be examined again and re-evaluated for changes/ongoing patching.

The last year+ has been challenging, as there was a barrage of appointments that included cardiology, audiology, MRI/ultrasound, and genetic testing. Ivy also receives SLP, as it was discovered that between the inability to see properly, and lowered exposure to social experiences due to Covid, a speech delay was in place. While working with SLP through Early Intervention, we were introduced to the Cleveland Sight Center, and they have continued to work with Ivy on at least a monthly basis to observe her utilizing her environment.

Through their help, we've been able to support Ivy by just being her parents and advocates, allowing them to utilize their expertise to offer strategies, creative ideas, and additional resources to help Ivy use the vision she does have to be the best version of herself, no matter the vision challenges she may face. They've also allowed us to help her in a way that she can be confident in both her home and community, so that she's assured in her abilities and needs when navigating her environment. It is because of this support that we would now like to support them in Ivy's name. Ivy will be turning 3 this month (May), so we'd like to reach a minimum of $300 as our team goal.

We thank you in advance for your consideration/donation, and for the additional support for Ivy through the help she receives through the Cleveland Sight Center. Much love.
