My Story…
My name is Nate Schreck, I am 17 years old, and I have chronic migraine. I was born with migraine disease, but I was not diagnosed until age 10 when I collapsed while playing baseball. An estimated 1 in 4 teenagers lives with migraine or a headache disorder.
Chronic migraine is one of the most debilitating illnesses you can have. People think migraine is just a headache, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. It is a complex neurological disease that can affect school, activities, work, relationships, physical and mental health, and so much more. Not only is migraine disease extremely misunderstood, but it's also one of the most underfunded conditions relative to its global burden of disease.
Although chronic migraine challenges me every day, I like to challenge myself in other ways by involving myself at church, extracurriculars, and sports. I have been an advocate for Headache on the Hill for two years and am a proud delegate with Team Mitten. HOH is a group that advocates on behalf of the migraine community to the U.S. Congress for better funding and research for migraine and headache diseases. This will be my second year walking, running, and playing as many innings of baseball as I can to raise money for Headache on the Hill.
Although my path is long, I remain hopeful that one day I can attain full remission from migraine. Thank you for your support!
