Help Paula raise money

For participating in DBA Diamond Dash

My Story…

A dear friend, Glynda Stever and I are walking to make a difference! Diamond Blackfan Anemia is a very rare bone marrow disorder affecting approximately 5000 people worldwide! DBA is a genetic mutation that was first discovered in 1938, and 45% of people affected inherit the disorder from a parent. Half of those affected also have physical abnormalities. DBA is when the bone marrow doesn't produce red blood cells. Treatments include steroids, blood transfusions, and bone marrow transplants. My son, Robert, and Glynda's nephew, Jack, are both affected with this disorder. They are both treated with blood transfusions every month. Of course, with this treatment comes complications. With regular transfusions comes the risk of iron overload. Eventually, this extra iron will cause organ failure if not removed. The extra iron is removed by chelation therapy, which means nightly needle pokes. They are hooked up to a pump which administers the medication. The chelation medication, desferal, then seeks out the extra iron which is then removed by urination. Please consider donating to this fundraiser, as the very important research that needs to be done is not government funded. Without this research, a cure will not be found. Donations of $20 or more will receive a receipt for income tax purposes. Last year $20,000 was raised and we hope to surpass that amount this year!! Sponsors are also welcome!! For $200 your name will be on the event shirt and your business information will be listed on the event site and the Facebook site.
