Our story…

Dear friends and family,

This is my year to walk for Brain Injury. It may be short notice but here I am about to walk with a friend and anyone else who wants to join us. If you can't join us in person then walk around your neighborhood or your college campus with your besties.

I first heard about this organization when I was a traumatized mother sitting at Spaulding Hospital wondering whether my son would recover and get his brain back. Thankfully, our time at Spaulding was limited to two weeks and we were sent home to heal and begin spreading our wings by learning how to cope, compensate, and create better days ahead.

I am walking for my son, who suffered a traumatic brain injury and ten years later is fully recovered. I am walking for my friends and their children who are the siblings of a TBI patient who have suffered. I am walking for any clients I have worked with in my years as a LMT and I am remembering those who have lost their lives whose stories were too close to home.

Deborah is walking with me and she is a friend and supporter who walked into my life as a Licensed Massage Therapist looking to get a massage. She found my card in a coffee shop and knew she was soon to be retiring from a field we both love. Immediately she became more of a mentor because I was newly getting off the ground. We bonded and found support in one another because our children both sustained a TBI at different times of our lives.

"WINGS AHEAD" represents all of us having wings to fly and do great things in our lifetime. As parents we can support our children through recovery, whatever that may look like. We need to let our children fly in their own direction, not our direction. They will find their way with guidance and super support which is first love and believing in them.

Our children are all affected differently, depending on their age. My girls struggled a bit with seeing their brother injured and in an altered state of mind. One thing that put a smile on our faces was a drive home from Spaulding one day when the oldest said "Mom, I want to become a brain surgeon" and the youngest stated at the time "I want to do what SHE is doing." SHE was a lovely woman collecting our parking fee. She was happy, kind and really seemed to love her job. Let's encourage our children to dream, set goals and then follow their dreams.

Please join us! You are guaranteed to make a friend!
