Our story…
The SNAPDragons are an athletic league of players who may not be appropriate for traditional recreation leagues. What started as an involved parent who wanted her son to play basketbal has grown to over 150 athletes, volunteers and coaches. She started by arranging a basketball night at their elementary school. It is now a full league and we call ourselves the SNAPDragons. "SNAP" stands for Special Needs Athletic Program.
We are associated with the West Clermont Youth Basketball Association, formerly GEYBA, a not for profit charitable organization. We have expanded to other sports as well. The SnapDragons have 4 different acitivities.
*A basketball league from November through February
*A cheer squad that participates in most of our basketball games.
*A softball league from late April through mid-July
We also have a strong affiliation with the local Cincinnati Top Soccer team, and many of our players also participate in that program.
Both our basketball and softball programs are well established. Most of our home basketball games and practices are on Sunday at the Union Township Community Center. We currently have 10 basketball teams and have also formed multiple Special Olympic teams from our ten teams that participate in their league.
We also have a squad of spirited cheerleaders. They support the teams at all of our home games and have been known to cover up to 5 games on a Sunday.
Our softball league is comprised of 30 players. We practice/play each Wednesday and Friday starting in late April and concluding in an All Star game in mid-July.
Our participants range from 6 year old to age 55. Teams are organized by skill and also by friendships. We stress having fun, socialization, teamwork and learning the game at our practices and games.
Our volunteers are an essential part of our organization. They provide help to individuals or groups depending on the level of assistance needed. Our coaches teach the game to the level of the players. We also have the best fans of any organization.
