Friends and family,

You probably know as well as I do that cancer will touch most of our lives one way or the other, sooner or later. It’s a sad fact of life. 

However, the good thing is that cancer care and treatment have been transformed in the last 25 years, giving more and more patients hope and many more families more time together. All these therapeutic innovations are the result of research and science, the kind of research that is being conducted at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center every single day. 

I have the great privilege to work with many of the big hearts and great minds at Hillman who work to discover new cures. At UPMC Enterprises, our singular goal is to use all of our resources to help clinical researchers and scientists succeed in finding new therapies That will make a difference. Yet when you are faced with a foe as formidable as cancer, no level of support is sufficient. There is always more we can do, until the day when cancer is a thing of the past.

I wish some of the treatments available today would have been available 35 years ago, when my 10 year old cousin Andre died of gastric cancer. Or even 20 years ago when my aunt Inge could not beat triple negative breast cancer. They may still be with us today. By making a donation today you can help us ensure that there is support for the research that will ensure that in the future more lives are saved and more weapons will be available in the fight against a cancer. 

We will succeed: One patient at a time, one experiment at a time, one discovery at a time. That’s why Laura, Margarete, Anna, Max and I will ride the 15 miles on May 20th to raise funds for cancer research at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.
