My Story…

I am a Pancreatic Cancer survivor. I was diagnosed in 1/2018 after what I thought was kidney stones. I had no other signs or symptoms of pancreatitis or cancer. Tumor markers were normal. However they found a 1/2 cm cyst on the head of my pancreas. However after  further testing and the cyst doubling in size I was sent to UPMC Hillman to be evaluated. My medical team still felt it was benign and did further testing which all was inconclusive, but the cyst was still growing. To err on the side of caution I underwent the whipple procedure in 5/10/18. What they thought was benign turned out to be pancreatic cancer. However, I was lucky. I was found to have the smallest amount of stage 1 pancreatic cancer in the United States. But my team says I’m lucky because the cyst was growing rapidly. I underwent 12 rounds of chemo lasting 56 hours and rang the bell 4/2/19. UPMC saved my life. Please consider donating. I didn’t choose to have cancer, but I did choose UPMC. 💜💜💜
