My Story…

You know what’s really amazing? My intestines.

No wait hear me out.

My intestines have been spliced apart, reshaped, spent a little while poking out of my abdomen, stitched to another part of my digestive tract, and now they’re at the point where they function well and let me live a pretty great life.

Now I should clarify that not all of my intestines have been amazing. My large intestine was a dysfunctional, diseased wreck thanks to ulcerative colitis, and the incredible doctors at Toronto’s Mount Sinai Hospital had to show it the door. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

And do you know how I was able to reach this point of intestinal impressiveness? The generosity of people like you! Caring donors who supported research into Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis made breakthroughs like my colectomy and pelvic pouch surgery possible, and that’s let me overcome some really low points in my life, when inflammatory bowel disease definitively held the upper hand.

While I’m in (barely) good enough shape to run a 10K, there are tens of thousands of Canadians who are still struggling with the potentially devastating impact of Crohn’s or colitis. They deserve our help.

I’m kindly asking you to donate to my run, which will support Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s ongoing research initiatives and patient programs that better the lives of everyone impacted by inflammatory bowel disease.

Thank you!

Your pal,

Rasheed (and his intestines)
