I Run to Cure CF!
My reason to run has given me 20 years of love and 20 years of many worrisome times. My reason to run is my granddaughter, Emma. Emma, in her second year at Carlow University, is studying Biology with an interest in Genetics. This year has been medically challenging for Emma, but her stubborn determination does not allow her to give into the many challenges of Cystic Fibrosis. Emma’s last hospital stay was just before finals and included Emma negotiating with her doctor to release her for finals and that she would return once the exams were over. During that hospital stay, Emma shared how grateful she was for TRIKAFTA® because many of those she knows with CF are doing so well. However, Emma has not had the same results. In Emma’s words, “I’d love to see another miracle drug, especially for people like me and others who either can’t take the current ones or where this drug isn’t as effective for them as it for other people.” Emma is excited to see the research that comes about with the amazing new technology we have today, research made possible by the funds donated to CURE CF.
Description
Cystic fibrosis is a rare, genetic disease found in about 40,000 people in the U.S. causing persistent lung infections and limiting the ability to breath over time. Those living with this disease are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers --all struggling each day just to breathe and live normal, healthy lives.
While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure and too many lives are cut far too short. By participating in the Pittsburgh Marathon on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I run to help add tomorrows to the lives of all people living with cystic fibrosis today.
