My Story…
Multiple Sclerosis is a disease that impacts the nerves in the brain that results in miscommunication with the body. It is a disease that we learn about as physical therapy students because different neurologic conditions can be helped with physical therapy. Research is showing that MS symptoms can become more manageable and slow the progression of the disease with exercises and other modalities that physical therapists practice in school.
As a future PT, I would love the opportunity to work with patients who have multiple sclerosis. The neurophysiology and science behind how physical therapy helps is fascinating to me and a challenge I would love to face. It would be very rewarding to help people who feel there is nothing that can be done. Proper exercises, realistic patient-centered goals, and empathy through the emotional rollercoaster MS may cause are the best ways a physical therapist can help their patients succeed.
In May 2023, I plan on running the Pittsburgh Marathon as a way to wrap up my first year of physical therapy school at Temple University. I wan to run my first marathon for my own personal reasons, but I also wanted to participate in a charity so I can have an extrinsic motivator to keep myself running and training for those who cannot.
Any donation is greatly appreciated. Please consider the importance of the research that must be done to improve the quality of life for those with MS, as well as the research to keep physical therapy up-to-date and effective for these patients.
Donate to help Morgan raise money for 2023 DICK'S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend’s fundraising campaign.
