Why I support The Pittsburgh Project
After a 6 year hiatus, I am running the Pittsburgh Half Marathon for my 5th and perhaps, final time. This race has created so many memories for me over the years. I first fell in love with Pittsburgh's rivers and trails while training for my first half marathon in 2012. Every spring I'd look forward to getting on the trails again, mapping a long, winding route through the interconnecting web of sidewalks, streets, bridges, footpaths, and shortcuts, viewing the city from all sides, taking in the fresh air and thanking God for the opportunity to take each step. Some of my favorite memories of the City of Pittsburgh are from the time I've spent training for and running the marathon.
In 2023, after calling Pittsburgh home for 20 years(!) my wife, children, and I will be relocating to Melbourne, Florida to be closer to family. It's bittersweet to leave a place we love, with wonderful neighbors, generous people, and incredible organizations like The Pittsburgh Project.
I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to run the Pittsburgh Half Marathon in 2023 in support of The Pittsburgh Project. This organization operates in my neighborhood, their campus is less than a mile from my home. Each time I go into town, I pass their school and sanctuary and am reminded of all the people and families that depend on The Pittsburgh Project to be a source of light in their lives. Through their programs, this organization gives underprivileged kids a chance to experience loving mentorship, guidance, development, investment, esteem, and community. I've had the chance to volunteer with them over the years and am always thankful to have this organization here. They are a blessing to us all!
