My Story…
My first pregnancy was uncomplicated until delivery. As soon as I went into labor, there were obvious signs that something was very, very wrong. EMS transported me the nearest hospital which had no medical record of me. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise after all. During my emergency cesarean, I was found to have undiagnosed placenta accreta and a low lying placenta. Placenta accreta is a rare, life-threatening pregnancy complication. It occurs in about 1 in every 272 pregnancies and a mortality rate of 7%. I am forever thankful for the doctors and nurses who possessed the knowledge and expertise to save mine, and my daughter Hayden’s life. I hope through this research, it continues to improve overall physical and mental health care of women, identifying placental issues, and promoting safe and healthy deliveries for a mother and their babies — it is what we deserve.
