Help Sarah raise money

Hello,

I am running for #teamLemieux at this year's Pittsburgh half marathon! This organization is personal to my family.

Over 10 years ago my dad was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an aggressive form of blood cancer. 10 year ago this January, he received a life saving stem cell transplant at Shadyside hospital, and now is living his life to the fullest. One of the biggest supporters during that difficult time was the Mario Lemieux Foundation. 

The Mario Lemieux Foundation is a non-profit created by the hockey legend, Mario Lemieux, himself after battling Hodgkin's Lymphoma which is another type of blood cancer. He created this organization to provide funding for cancer research, to support patients financially and emotionally, and to support the families of cancer patients. 

Since its creation in 1993, the Mario Lemieux Foundation has extended into other areas to help families in difficult medical situations. Austin's playrooms, which provides support to both patients and their siblings, is an example of this at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. In addition, in 2022, the Mario Lemieux Foundation established the Mario Lemieux Institute for Pediatric Cancer with CHP. This organization has also created multiple cancer centers, funded millions in research, and recently established the Division of Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) at Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) Cardiovascular Institute in addition to other endeavors.

My dad has been in remission for 10 years, and now volunteers at UPMC Hillman cancer center where he continues to see the support that the Mario Lemieux Foundation provides for the cancer community in Pittsburgh.
