I Run to Cure CF!
Hi! I am running the Pittsburgh marathon relay as part of the charity team, Chris's Fighters to raise money and awareness for cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects the entire body, but most prominently the lungs and digestive system. People with CF have trouble absorbing nutrients and gaining weight, but more troubling have recurrent lung infections resulting in eventual respiratory failure and need for lung transplantation or death. People with CF historically didn't survive past childhood, but thanks to the research and developments of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, we have made tons of progress in the management of this disease. People born with CF modern times now have a life expectancy of 53 years old.
My brother Christopher was diagnosed with CF at 18 months and has struggled with it his whole life, which culminated to a life-saving double lung transplant in August 2020. Chris has been doing great since his transplant, however post-transplant life still requires significant care, and the CF still affects his other body systems. Also there are approximately 40,000 other Americans with CF that need our help.

Cystic fibrosis is a rare, genetic disease found in about 40,000 people in the U.S. causing persistent lung infections and limiting the ability to breath over time. Those living with this disease are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers --all struggling each day just to breathe and live normal, healthy lives.
While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure and too many lives are cut far too short. By participating in the Pittsburgh Marathon on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I run to help add tomorrows to the lives of all people living with cystic fibrosis today.
