My Story…
In my lifetime, I’ve run a 10k in Pittsburgh and a 10 miler on Broad Street in Philly, but I’ve never tackled a marathon. In July of 2022, I started using the Nike Running Club app and since then I’ve learned to appreciate the sport of running in a new way thanks to Coach Bennett. One of his often stated gems is every finish line is just a starting line in disguise. What this means to me: continue; Coach Bennett asks for effort not results. To quote one of my favorite [fictional] sports heroes of all time, Rocky, “life ain’t about how hard you can hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keeping moving forward.” I’m a Pitt Panther alum, diehard black and gold fan, and I was in Pittsburgh for two Super Bowls and one Stanley Cup victory (also, the birthplace of my dad and my first son!). I appreciate the passion of all Pennsylvania sports teams, so it’s really special to take on this challenge in the steel city of Clemente, Lemieux, Polamalu and other champions I don’t have the space to list. It can be challenging to get back on the starting line, but winning is done one step, one stride at a time, one day at a time regardless of the pace. This is about running and this most certainly is not about running.
