Running in support of The Outlier Fund

13.1 Miles, Huh?

Hi everybody! So you've come to this page and you're probably wondering - Jason Giedl is going to run 13.1 miles? This has got to be a joke right? Well folks, I sure wish it was. But here we are. I bet you're wondering how I got here? Well, the month was...

March 2022

Prior to this month, the most I ever ran without walking/stopping was 1.5 miles. But coming off of two years of non-stop Covid stress, I needed an outlet to get the frustration out. Knowing that I needed to improve both my mental health, as well as my physical health I decided to start running. As soon as my foot hit the pavement for that first time, I knew I had made a terrible mistake.

Slowly yet surely I kept with it, and my time began to decrease and my distance began to increase. Couch to 5k was an app I leaned on to learn how to pace myself and increase my distance; and when I started I could not even run a mile. Today I'm currently at a sub 11 min/mile pace, and going 5+ miles without stopping/walking. The goal now is 13.1. With that, I'm going to need a lot of....

Motivation

First and foremost my motivation is my wife Rachel, who ran the team relay in 2019. It was one of the most inspiring things to see her train and complete her goal. At that point, I never thought I would run a race let alone a half marathon. Jack and Stella, our two wonderful kids whom I want to be there for all their highs and lows. My mom who's never gives up in the face of whatever life throws at her. And my dad, whom not a day goes by where I don't think about him.

The Outlier Fund

Another major motivation is my friend Harry Lorusso. Harry is a great husband, father, friend, and a mediocre fantasy football player. The image of him finishing the 2022 Pittsburgh Marathon is something I've replayed in my memory time and time again as I ran, wondering if one day I'd be able to capture that type of moment. Well in 2023, I'm going to do everything I can to get it.

I'm taking my talents to the Outlier Fund. The Outlier Fund works to bring hope to those impacted by glioblastoma through creating community, raising awareness and funds for impactful research.

Cancer has impacted all our lives. As I look back on my dad's passing in 2001 from cancer, I often wonder if I should have done more to honor his life and try to help others to prevent them from experiencing the pain I have felt. The Outlier Fund seeks to do that with a cancer that we know little about, and can impact anyone.

So in a sea of people asking you for donations, I'm once again asking for your help. Any amount is more than appreciated, and will go directly to people impacted by glioblastoma and research for a cure.

So in the words of My Chemical Romance, "Keep Running".
