I Run to Cure CF!
Flashback to fall of 2019 before the world turned upside down, but when when my world flipped upside down in a good way; I received my first dose of Trikafta, the miracle drug. The pills that resulted from decades of research, countless donations, lives loved and lives lost on a mission to fight this deadly disease. Those three pills changed my life and without, I don’t know where I’d be, let alone training for another marathon. Since that time those daily doses of magic have dramatically improved my quality of life; less hours of breathing treatments, less medication, less IVs/PICC lines. I can never truly explain the difference this drug has made.
But…10% of the CF population cannot benefit from Trikafta and the search for a cure is still on. So I am back to fundraising and searching for a finish line, both physically and metaphorically. Plus, I’ve gotten a bit soft and need to prove to myself I can still do hard things. So here’s to raising funds for CF research and proving to myself I’m not old and washed up…well at least not washed up.
Description
Cystic fibrosis is a rare, genetic disease found in about 40,000 people in the U.S. causing persistent lung infections and limiting the ability to breath over time. Those living with this disease are moms, dads, sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, friends, and co-workers --all struggling each day just to breathe and live normal, healthy lives.
While there has been significant progress in treating this disease, there is still no cure and too many lives are cut far too short. By participating in the Pittsburgh Marathon on behalf of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I run to help add tomorrows to the lives of all people living with cystic fibrosis today.
